Last month I spent a few days in the Mission, San Francisco, one night to DJ my art idol, Juana Alicia’s last show before she moves to Mexico and out to support my homegirls DJ events. The Mission has a very soft spot in my heart. When I attended the California College of the Arts, I lived in the Mission for a few years. I became very active in the community especially the art community. I apprenticed for muralists at Precita Eyes, I modeled for a murals, I first began to show my work in Galleries in the Mission, like at Encantada on Valencia, SOMArts and working in the print shop at the Mission Cultural Center. This was a very long time ago, right before gentrification. The days that I spent here recently were very nostalgic and refreshing to know that the community is still holding it down.
